Metal Sphere- Sculptural installation

‘Please Wait Here’ installation explores the complex and destructive relationship between the ideologies of infinite growth, consumerism and human desire. Inspired by the book ‘Society of the Spectacle’ by Guy Debord and ‘Postcapitalist Desire: The Final Lectures’ by Mark Fisher, the installation questions how long a system of infinite growth based on endless consumption can sustain itself or support its own weight. As Mark Fisher explores in his book, the installation asks us to examine our human desire for endless consumption. The highly polished, mirrored surface of the sculpture alludes to Guy Debord’s ‘Spectacle’, transforming the spectator into an active component of the artwork and thus blaring the lines between commodity and personification. The work questions the fragility and disempowering nature of the personified commodity and thus the alienation process of the individual. This sculpture was installed in a shopping mall in Bristol City Centre.
