‘Brixton: Lessons in liberation’ (2025)

Brixton: Lessons in Liberation (2025) is a short film exploring the political history and enduring legacy of resistance in Brixton, South London. Structured around a walk through the area, the film reflects on Brixton's role as a place of political organising, cultural expression, and collective action.

Screened during Late at Tate Britain alongside Hurvin Anderson's first major solo exhibition at the gallery, the film considers how Brixton's history continues to shape contemporary conversations around justice, identity, and liberation.

Long recognised as a centre of resistance, Brixton has played an important role in movements for racial justice and social change, both within Britain and beyond. The film pays tribute to the generations who have challenged state violence, systemic racism, and structural inequality, while acknowledging those who continue that work today.
